Instructor: Deirdre & the team Get involved with our first ever Community Quilt Day! The session will begin with 30 minutes of demo style instruction on how to create an Economy Block, also called a Square-in-a-Square. We will then spend time piecing the blocks from precut fabric which will ultimately turn into quilt tops. We will host 3 instructional periods throughout the day, and ask students to sign up for no more than 2 hours to allow as many participants as possible. We intend to donate our finished quilts to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a non-profit organization that provides summer camp experiences for children with serious illnesses, and your registration fee covers a portion of the materials needed to finish the quilts. Want to participate but unavailable on the 14th? We will be following this tutorial on Diary of A Quilter’s site to make 8” finished blocks and are making blocks defined by color family (ex: shades of blue, warm colors etc) to aid us in making beautiful and cohesive quilts If you wish to piece your blocks into a top they must be no bigger than 5 blocks wide by 8 blocks tall (generous lap sized) as per Hole in the Wall Gang’s request. You can drop off squared blocks or quilt tops to the shop during retail hours no later than March 31st. We are happy to take donations of fabric that is FQ-2 yard cuts (no scraps), new, 100% cotton, appropriate for children’s quilts and recently laundered. No more than one bag of donated fabric per person, please. Fabric may be dropped off at the shop during retail hours no later than March 7th so that our volunteers can prep it before the Sew Day.
