Hydrocolloid dressings are composed of gel-forming agents, such as gelatin or carboxymethylcellulose, which absorb helps to maintain a moist environment conducive to healing and facilitates autolytic debridement, where the body’s own enzymes break down dead tissue. The border is made of an adhesive material that sticks to the surrounding skin which helps to protect the wound from external contaminants and friction, reducing the risk of infection and promoting comfort during wear.
